Drummer/Performer Closing Remarks – Art, Community & Mental Health
[00:22:11] I’m G [00:22:11] I’m G [00:22:11] there’s so much power in the drum, just like there’s power in community, just like there’s [00:22:16] power in art, just like there’s power in a lot of stuff that all share common spaces. So like [00:22:24] my guy Desmond said, you see me all over. Some of y’all have seen me when I started as a street [00:22:28] performer in Galley Place in Chinatown, U Street, and some of y’all seen me when I was a finalist [00:22:33] on America’s Got Talent, or some of y’all just seen me just in your local schools, anywhere. [00:22:39] I’m always present with a drone. This is my second voice, or maybe my first, sometimes. [00:22:43] I don’t have to say something this way. I can say it that way. But, anyway, thank you so much for sharing [00:22:48] that energy, and that rhythm, and that space, because art is very important. Sometimes they value [00:22:53] the art more important when they actually need us, after they took the money from us. It’s, you know, [00:22:58] it’s for the mind, the body, the spirit. And we got to continue to keep showing up for each other, [00:23:03] because at the end of the day, community matters. When all the other governments, [00:23:09] and all the, you know, all the other companies, and all the other levels of people, we have to fight for. [00:23:09] all this different stuff takes whatever away from us remember though we they serve us and we need [00:23:15] to serve us and self-govern us as well in whatever capacity that we can but yeah um as far as that [00:23:39] is [00:24:03] in front of me [00:24:09] is [00:24:28] that’s just the way i’m built now [00:24:39] yes [00:24:49] is [00:25:01] is [00:25:07] is [00:25:09] uh [00:25:19] , [00:25:27] is [00:25:29] is [00:25:31] is [00:25:33] is [00:25:35] is [00:25:37] is
