An unidentified drummer and performer closes out the segment with reflective remarks on the power of drumming, art, and community, drawing on their personal journey from street performing in DC to appearing on America’s Got Talent. They emphasize the importance of mutual support and self-governance within community as a counterweight to systemic neglect of the arts.

[00:22:11] I’m G
[00:22:11] there’s so much power in the drum, just like there’s power in community, just like there’s
[00:22:16] power in art, just like there’s power in a lot of stuff that all share common spaces. So like
[00:22:24] my guy Desmond said, you see me all over. Some of y’all have seen me when I started as a street
[00:22:28] performer in Galley Place in Chinatown, U Street, and some of y’all seen me when I was a finalist
[00:22:33] on America’s Got Talent, or some of y’all just seen me just in your local schools, anywhere.
[00:22:39] I’m always present with a drone. This is my second voice, or maybe my first, sometimes.
[00:22:43] I don’t have to say something this way. I can say it that way. But, anyway, thank you so much for sharing
[00:22:48] that energy, and that rhythm, and that space, because art is very important. Sometimes they value
[00:22:53] the art more important when they actually need us, after they took the money from us. It’s, you know,
[00:22:58] it’s for the mind, the body, the spirit. And we got to continue to keep showing up for each other,
[00:23:03] because at the end of the day, community matters. When all the other governments,
[00:23:09] and all the, you know, all the other companies, and all the other levels of people, we have to fight for.
[00:23:09] all this different stuff takes whatever away from us remember though we they serve us and we need
[00:23:15] to serve us and self-govern us as well in whatever capacity that we can but yeah um as far as that
