Jenna - Vinyl Scrap Art and Meditation
[02:34:10] Raise the room for Malcolm. [02:34:18] I’ve been super blessed throughout the pandemic. I worked at a grocery store, so the biggest [02:34:23] change we had to do was, like, slap a mask on. I still had a job. I was very lucky to [02:34:28] have friends and support around me, so I’m very thankful for that. And throughout, about [02:34:36] my mental health, I’ve been dealing with, like, an illness. I’ve been dealing with [02:34:39] an injury for a couple years, so I’m trying to figure out how to get that going. It’s hard [02:34:43] to be your own advocate in the health world in general, but then if you’re trying to add [02:34:48] mental health to that and disability type of things, that’s another thing to navigate. [02:34:56] So I just wanted to talk about the art that I brought today. I brought some vinyl scrap [02:35:02] art in the back. It’s on hangers. And it’s really cool to me because most of the materials [02:35:08] I got for it were super free. It’s vinyl scraps from a place where I worked as, like, [02:35:15] boat graphics. So we put boat names on the back of boats, and then they would have, like, [02:35:20] extra scraps. So I really like being eco-friendly in this world and using, like, what you have, [02:35:25] like, found object art and stuff like that. So my art was almost free to make, and I encourage [02:35:33] you to look at it after I’m done, after this whole thing’s done. [02:35:38] And then I also brought some cards. They have, like, a Buddha meditating, and I just wanted [02:35:44] to touch on that and how it’s been really healing in my mental health journey to discover [02:35:49] meditation and how, like, just slowing your mind down can be super healing. And I think [02:35:57] a lot of people have, like, a bad idea of what meditation is, but for me, I will just, [02:36:03] like, set a timer on my phone for 20 minutes, like, get my back up against a wall, and then [02:36:08] just, like, let my thoughts, like, float in front of my, you know, brain. I don’t really [02:36:15] think about, like, if I’m breathing special or anything like that, but it really helps [02:36:19] me just, like, process my to-do list, and it really helps me slow down and just get [02:36:26] what I need to get done for that day. So I encourage you guys to explore that avenue. [02:36:31] And I just want to tell you guys I’m so thankful to be around a group of people who are just [02:36:37] trying to process. [02:36:38] Difficult emotions during such a thick time. Like, we’re all just really brave to be sharing [02:36:46] this energy and this space tonight. So thank you.
